In my search for ancestors - Frederick Horrocks, Private in the 1/8th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment who died aged 19 at the Somme on the 1st July 1916; and Frederick Ward, Private in the 1st Battalion The Herefordshire Regiment, King's Shropshire Infantry who died aged 26 on the 28th June 1944 in France. I have photographed and compiled a data base of those commemorated on memorials located in and around Birmingham and Solihull. I found some web sites on the internet gave some details but none listed all the names and details specifically for Birmingham and Solihull. So I decided to develop this site to assist others in tracing their family tree and tracking down ancestors in the Boer war, the Great War and world war Two.
This site is also dedicated to the lives of these men and women and to their memory. I found some graveyards and memorials well tendered but some were very neglected and abandoned.
This is an ongoing project and I will add further memorials. One source said there was once over 400 memorials in Birmingham and the surrounding areas. Some have now gone, decayed with age or subjected to vandalism. Closure and demolition of buildings has meant some have had to be relocated and new memorials have been erected in recent years.
Alongside memorials I have listed the graves within local churches that the Commonwealth War Grave Commission maintain; and snippets of information that I have discovered about Birmingham residence.

Badge of the Royal Airforce (1950) belonged to my father Brian Hart (1932-1995)
